Why You Must Prepare and Go to the Temple

When you go to the temple for the first time you take out your own endowments. The endowment contains covenants or promises you make with the Lord and what He promises you when you keep those covenants. You promise:

to keep the commandments.
all you have to the building up of the Kingdom of God. This is whatever the Lord asks of you like tithing, service, your time, etc.
to be true to your marriage vows.

God promises that if you do those things:

You will inherit the kingdom of God and possess all that He has.
You will become gods or goddesses.
You will have an eternal marriage.
You can have your earthly sealed to you forever.
You will be able to have eternal increase ... that is having the ability to have spirit children and worlds without number.

God will not let you have these blessings if you have not taken out your own endowments.

You cannot be eternally sealed to your mate nor have your children sealed to you unless you have a temple marriage.

To be able to take out your own endowments we must be "Temple Ready" so you will be worthy to get a Temple Recommend. To be "Temple Ready" means that:

You live the Word of Wisdom. (See Doctrine & Covenants Section 89.)
Attend your church meetings regularly.
You are honest with your dealing with your fellow men.
You accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
You accept and support the general authorities, stake and ward leaders.
Your relationship with your family is in keeping with the standards of the church .
Your behaviors are in keep with the standards of the church.
You do not support any apostate groups.
If you have had a divorce it needs to be legally and completely cleared up.

If you are not "Temple Ready" now or are not working to be so, NOW is the time to do so.

For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors. Alma 34:32

When you are working on being “Temple Ready,” you should take the Temple Preparation Classes to help you get ready and to understand more fully what goes on in the temple and the covenants you will make in the temple.

Ask your bishop if you can participate in the next Temple Preparation Class!
