**A Cub Scout Year runs from September thru August.**
*Calendar all fund raisers (at least 1) and service
projects (at least 2). *
*Register each leader and each eight year old as they
come into the program.*
Registration forms are found at the Scout Office.
January
Rechartering time - The Pack signs a contract with the Scouting District
Office to
extend our charter with them for one more year. We pay the annual fees and
sign up for Boy's Life Magazine.
- The church pays for rechartering fees.
- Parents pays for Boy's Life Magazine.
- Boys Life Magazine is now age appropriate.
- Each boy should have his own.
February
Blue and Gold Banquet & Awards Night - The birthday party for the Boy
Scouts and Cub Scouts. It is also a perfect time to recognize all those that
have helped make the Pack excel.
- Get dinner and decorations committees.
- Calendar the event from about noon to nine for set-up, the event, and
clean-up.
March
Pinewood Derby - Derby Car Races
- Schedule the race track with the bishop in charge of the building.
Calendar the event from about noon to nine for set-up and event.
- Get a decorations committee.
- Get two non-partisan judges to call the winners.
- Use a double elimination racing form.
June
June 24th-27th, 1997 Cub Scout Day Camp
- Always schedule it for the last week of June.
- Least amount of rain
- Least amount of mosquitoes.
- Best chance of sun.
- Get chaperones
- Camp moneys all paid in on time
- Have all medical forms in.
- Class one medical forms for the boys and chaperones.
- Class two medical forms for chaperons and new leaders that are 40 or
older.
- Get the right size of T-shirts for each boy.
- Always order adult sizes. The T-shirts run two sizes too small.
- Turn in the order on time.
November and December
Thanksgiving, Christmas, or school programs fall on or too close to Pack
Night (the 4th week of the month). If this is the case, change the Pack Meeting
to the 3rd week.
Monthly Schedule
1st week of the month: District Roundtable
3rd week of the month: Cub Committee Meeting. . .Use the three month
discussion plan.
4th week of the month: Pack Meeting
Breakdown of the Year's Events by Months
August
- Read new Helps Manual and outline possible pack yearly events calendar.
- Note possible changes to be made.
- Write a brief overview of each Pack Meeting.
September
- Hold a yearly calendaring meeting for the Pack Committee.
- Plan the whole year of:
- Pack Meetings
- Fund Raisers
- Service Projects
- Special Events
- Set Goals needed to get the Quality Award from the District
- Pack Meeting is the Parent Meeting.
- See handouts.
- Get parents to sign up for:
- Blue and Gold dinner and decorations committee
- Pinewood Derby decorating Committee
- Chaperones for Cub Scout Day Camp
October
- October 4th - Cub Leader's Basic for all untrained leaders.
- Decide how to deal with Halloween. Ex.: Dress like one of your ancestors
and share a brief history of that individual.
- Set up payment plans (flyers) for participating parents for Pack Meeting.
- Have all parents pay all moneys to the ward clerk by check preferably.
- Meet each the 3 time gates and get $10 off camp fee. ($75 instead of $85)
- April 1st - $25 now will get each boy a free T-shirt
- May 22nd - $40
November
November 30th - The first of Cub Day Camp Payments are due to the ward clerk
or the parents are responsible to take their payment into the Scout Office
themselves before December 2nd to be able to get the ten dollar discount on the
camp fees.
- Have camp checks made out to ward with a notation that it goes to Cub Day
Camp. - a non-refundable $10 deposit due!
- Get a check from the clerk for camp.
- Thanksgiving and Pack Meeting which comes first depends how you deal with
Pack Meeting.
- Will it be over by the 4th week?
- Will Thanksgiving or school/community meetings interfere with the boys
coming to Pack Meeting? Change Pack meeting to the 3rd week of the month.
- At Pack Meeting:
- Get parents to buy subscriptions to Boy's Life for their boys as stocking
stuffers for Christmas.
- Gather the money for rechartering time in January.
December
- December 2nd - Sign Up for Cub Scout Day Camp at the Scout office.
- The first of Cub Day Camp Payments are due.- $10 deposit / boy
- Go at least one hour earlier that the office opening time.
- The line forms two hours early.
- Wear something warm enough to stand out in the cold in line for that
long.
Note: If there is a disparity in the number of boys going to
camp from December
payment to the April payment, cancel the extra ones by April's payment or the
Pack has to pay for the extras whether they go or not.
- Christmas and Pack Meeting which comes first depends how you deal with
Pack Meeting.
- Will it be over by the 4th week?
- Will Christmas or school/community meetings interfere with the boys coming
to Pack Meeting? Change Pack meeting to the 3rd week of the month.
January
- January 6th get the materials for rechartering at Roundtable (1st Tuesday
each month).
- January 11 have the charter ready to renew.
- Gather all moneys for Boy's Life from parents and all moneys for
rechartering boys and leaders from the church.
- Get the Bishop, Cub Master, and District Commissioner to sign the
charter.
- Make sure all leaders and boys are registered.
- January 21st - Deadline for charter to be in is or there will be not
Quality Unit Award for our Pack.
- Take the charter to the Scout Office and recharter.
- Order the Quality Unit Award badges, and a plaque for the bishop's
office.
- Get a receipt.
Copy the receipt and write up a ward check request for the Quality Award
Badges and Plaque.
- Take the receipt back to the 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric so he can get
the money reimbursed from the Stake for the rechartering.
February
- February 2nd 1996 - Scout Sunday. Leaders, Scouts and Cub Scouts are to
wear their uniform to church that Sunday. O.K. this with the Bishop in
advance through the 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric.
- Figure out the Awards and Invitations for the Blue and Gold
Banquet.
- Purchase the Pinewood Derby Cars from the Scout Office & get Day
Camp Medical forms for boys and over 40 chaperones..
- February 26th - Pack Meeting - Blue and Gold & Awards Night
- Make a flyer to inform parents that by March 29th - Second
payment due to Bishop's Office or the parents are responsible to take their
payment into the Scout Office themselves before April 1st to be able to get
the free T-shirt.
- Get the T-shirt Sizes
- Order only Adult sizes! The shirts run two sized too small.
Possible Blue and Gold Dinner & Awards Night Formats
- All Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and their families could be invited. The
Scouts and Cubs could do a joint flag ceremony. The Boy Scout could have a
Court of Honor. Then the Cub Scouts could get their awards. These could be
interspersed with songs and skits form both groups.
- Only Cub Scouts and their families could attend. The program would be a
flag ceremony songs and skits interspersed between the boys awards and the
adult awards.
- Use a combination of the two formats.
- Activate the Cub Scout Parent Decorating and Food Committee
- Give out Pinewood Derby Cars to the Cubs.
- Who the Cub Committee Chairman invites to the dinner:
- The bishopric and their families
- The Primary Presidency and their families
- Our District Commissioner and her family
- Our District Executive and his family
- Any Cub Leaders, Bishopric, District Commissioners or Executives that
served our Pack during the last year that have been released plus their
families.
Who should get awards?
Any Cub Leaders, 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric, 2nd counselor in the Primary
district commissioners or executives that served our pack during the last year
that have been released. Also any member that has served on a special committee
or was a chaperone for Cub Day Camp.
March

April
April 1st - Second payment due for Cub Scout Day Camp deadline.

- April 19th - Scouting for Food - (Service Project)
- April 23 - Pack Meeting
- Sign up chaperones and the days they want to go to camp. Must
have 5:1 ratio.
- Collect all Heath Forms for Day Camp by Pack Meeting
May
May 15th & 16th
Prepare the chaperone & the boys Cub Camp Handout with the bus schedule
and items needed for camp.
May 17th
- Last payment due in to the Bishopric's office by the 3rd Sunday, May 17th
or the parents are responsible to take their payment into the Scout Office
themselves before May 22nd to be able to get the ten dollar discount on the
camp fees.
- Get a check from the ward clerk for:
- Day Camp Money
- Any extra adults needed for chaperones
- Copy the chaperone & the boys Cub Camp Handout with the bus schedule
and items needed for camp.
May 18-22.
- Get last camp payment into the office.
- Pay for any extra adults
Note: If there is a disparity in the number of boys going to
camp from April's payment, cancel the extra ones by April's payment or the Pack
has to pay for the extras whether they go or not.
May 22nd
- Distribute copies of the chaperone & the boys Cub Camp Handout with
the bus schedule and items needed for camp at Pack Meeting,
- Collect all Heath Forms.
- Take extra blanks.
- Attend the District Cub Camp Orientation at Camp Carlquest.
- Get the camp information & T-shirts.
- Get the camp information from Orientation, & T-shirts, with names
marked on them, to the Cub Leaders.
- Finalize the days for all chaperones.
June
June 24th -27, 1996 - Cub Day Camp for Pack 187.
July & August
- August 11-13 Wood's Wisdom for all Webelos Leaders to be held at Camp
Gorsuch.
- Pack Meetings or Outings only to get the Summertime Pack Award.
- Den and Webelos meetings held at the Leaders discretion.
- Get a print out from the Primary 2nd Counselor as to the boys, birth
dates, phone numbers and addresses that the seven year old boys will be
turning eight for the rest of this year and next.
