Hi Annette,

Is medication necessary for someone who had ADD/ADHD? I am on Serzone for depression and seem to be doing well without the stimulant medication that made me real mean 3 months ago. I have organized 2 rooms in my home and have continued to feel fine. I really don't want to see anymore ADD doctors and seem fine with my life as is. Should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Wondering

Dear Wondering,

An old adage fits here.... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" The medication is to help you feel in command of you and your thoughts. If you feel you are able to focus well enough on tasks and your mind attends to what you want it to, why mess with medications that always have lousy side-effects. Why borrow trouble?

If there comes a time that you feel you need help in this area, get it! To make absolutely sure I would give the last word to the Lord. You need to studied it out in your mind and make a decision, now ask the Lord if it is right. Whatever He says you have the perfect answer!

How to Make Good Decisions

  1. Take a piece of paper and draw a vertical line down the middle of the sheet making two columns.
  2. On the top of the first list write "Pro's." These the positive things about the issue.
  3. On the top of the second column write "Con's." These are the negative things about the issue.
  4. Ask the Lord to help you list all the items dealing with this issue. Now, list all the items about the issue under the appropriate column.
  5. Ask the Lord to help you to understand the importance of each item listed by assigning it a fair numeric value. Giving an item a "ten" means that it is of the utmost importance. Assigning it a "one" means that it has little or no importance. A "five," of course means, that it is middle of the road; not extremely important, but not unimportant either. Now, assign each item a value.
  6. Add up the numeric value of each item, in each column, to see which has the most important items listed. The one with the higher value means more to you and should give you your decision.
  7. Now that you have studied it out in your mind Ask God if you decision is correct.
  8. Now ask the Lord to help you do what you must to put your decision into work.

  9. This may take a great deal of planning. Do that now.

  10. Then actuate your plan and put your decision to work.

James 2:20 ". . . faith without works is dead.

The Wrap-up

Whenever you have a question about anything in your life, think it through and then ask God if you are right! In this world of uncertainty, where white can be black, black - white, and there are many shades of gray, it is important to know what the Lord would want you to do in your situation. The Lord's perspective may be far different than what you might expect for this instance, because He knows what is coming and what you must do to be ready for it. To be sure... ask the Lord!

Sincerely,
