Among all my patients in the second half of life (over 35), there has not been
one whose problems in the last resort were not that of finding a religious outlook on life. It is safe to
say that everyone of them fell ill because he or she had lost that which the living religions of every age
have given to their followers, and none of them has really healed who did not regain his religious
outlook. -- Dr Carl Jung, psychologist

There is a significant link between mental illnesses like
depression, which are becoming so rampant in our society today,
and the lack of living a virtuous and, dare I say, a righteous
lifestyle. It is not a coincidence that the fall of our societal
moral standards has resulted in a significant rise in the mental
illnesses we are now seeing. There should be no shock in the
fact that our morally ill society is now doubling the number of
mind altering prescriptions given out, or that the strength of
the drugs being prescribed, is doubling every few years. This
pattern will continue until our society heals itself by
regaining it's moral footings and returning to the kind of
moral, religious based standards of only a few generations ago.
